Ups and downs for the EAB Racing Team during the race weekend in Autodrom Most

Last weekend from 29 to 31 July, the World Supersport Championship took place on the Czech circuit of Autodrom Most. Glenn van Straalen and the EAB Racing Team did well in the first race, but the second race was not good. From a warm Friday to a cool and rainy Saturday and a perfect Sunday, the weather kept changing.

The Friday practices started well and we saw the Dutchman from Hoogkarspel in tenth place overall after the free practices. The feeling with the bike was good straight away and Glenn managed to get a good race rhythm. The feeling before the Superpole session on Saturday morning was good. This qualifying session was a bit hectic, due to a red flag situation. As a result, the fast times had to be set in the last four minutes. The Yamaha rider clocked two fast laps, resulting in sixth place for the two races.

The first race was on Saturday afternoon. It was a chaotic start with a big crash, which Glenn managed to avoid. He recovered quickly and during the first pass we saw him in fourth place. He soon took over third and started chasing for second. The 21-year-old got followed by seven other riders who were chasing him. Glenn took over the second place and then it was a continuous change with a large group of riders. In the end, the EAB Racing Team rider crossed the finish line fifth after an excellent race.

The second race did not go to plan. Glenn had a good start but when braking into the first corner we saw a lot of movement at the Dutchman’s machine. As a result, he could not stop his machine in time and had to go straight through the gravel. He had to start his advance from the very last place and it was difficult to set the rhythm, which resulted in a fifteen place.

Glenn: “It was a mixed weekend. I used Friday to work on my race rhythm and it turned out well. The Superpole was good. It started with a red flag when I wanted to set a time. In the end I managed to pull out a good time for sixth place. Race one on Saturday afternoon was strong, the first corner was chaotic but after that I was able to get a good rhythm and we battled with a large group for second place. At the end I had it was difficult but with a fifth place we can be satisfied. The second race was bad. I braked to late into turn one and had to go through the gravel. We had to start from the back and I did not have the confidence and finished 15th. Thanks to the EAB Racing Team for their hard work this weekend.”

The first half of the WorldSPP season is over. The next weekend for the World Supersport Championship will take place on the weekend of 9-11 September at the Magny Cours circuit in France. In the meantime, Glenn will be in action with a wildcard at the IDM in Assen from August 12-14.

Good speed but disappointing results for Glenn van Straalen at Donington Park

Last weekend the EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen rode his fifth race of the season in the World Supersport Championship on the spectacular circuit of Donington Park. The EAB Racing Team rider showed good speed all weekend but the results were disappointing.

Two free practice sessions were scheduled on Friday. Temperature around twenty degrees with sun and clouds there were perfect conditions. During the first free practice there were some problems but they were solved during the second practice. Glenn immediately had good speed and we saw him back in second place in the ranking.

The Superpole was excellent from the rider from Hoogkarspel who rode several fast laps and worked his way up to third place. He was even on provisional Pole Position but eventually dropped back to third place. On his last lap, where Glenn was on his way to improve his time, he crashed in the last corner before the start and finish. Nevertheless, he managed to qualify on the front row of the grid.

The first race on Saturday afternoon started half an hour later after some delay due a red flag situation. Glenn started from third position and had a good start. It was a hectic first lap, but Glenn managed it. He passed the first lap in seventh place. From here on he began his advance forward. He overtook some riders and battled it out for third position in the race. Going into the last lap Glenn was in fourth place but when attempting to overtake in the Fogarty Esses it went wrong, he lost control of the machine and was thrown off his bike resulting in a nasty crash. But luckily he was unhurt.

The start of the second race was good, Glenn came through in sixth place during the first lap. He had the right pace and was able to keep up, unfortunately when braking at the Melbourne Hairpin he crashed. Which unfortunately means another zero score

Glenn: “We have shown that the speed is good but with two zero scores we cannot be satisfied at all. The free practice sessions went well and were in good shape after Friday. During Superpole we were able to make some improvements and I qualified third for the two races. The first race was good and I was consistently in the top five, but unfortunately I crashed on the last lap. Race two was short, I braked to late in, which again brought the race to an early end. I want to thank the EAB Racing Team for their hard work. Now the focus is on Most.”

In two weeks’ time Glenn and the EAB Racing team will be back. Then they settle in the Czech Republic. Then we will race at Autodrom Most in the weekend of 29 to 31 July. Glenn recently raced here with a wildcard in the IDM Championship.

EAB Racing Team closes the IDM weekend in Most with two podiums

On the weekend of 24 to 26 June, Glenn van Straalen and the EAB Racing Team raced with a wildcard in the German IDM Championship on the Czech track of Autodrom Most. A good training in preparation for the World Supersport Championship which will take place on the same circuit in a month’s time. Glenn rode two decent races, which resulted in a second place twice.

On Friday morning, the first free practice started dry with a temperature around 30 degrees, while the second free practice started later due rain. During the first day, the EAB Racing Team rider was able to make the good progress, what resulted in a second place during the free practices. For this wildcard in the IDM, the 21-year-old rider used the Yamaha with the IDM specifications.

On Saturday it was the other way around, the first qualifying was wet and the second was dry. In both sessions, the Dutchman showed that he had the right pace. He set the fastest time at the Autodrom in Most, which meant a Pole Position for the two races on Sunday.

Glenn had a great first race in the Czech Republic. It was exciting until the finish line. He battled with another wildcard till the finish line for the win. With an excellent rhythm and fast lap times, Glenn was on a good way during the first race at Most. The EAB Racing Team rider crossed the finish as second.

The second race was different. The front runner was gone and Glenn was in third place fighting for second place. He struggled to pass the rider in front of him, once overtaken he was able to get a good racing rhythm again and was consistent throughout the race. As a result, he manages to cross the finish line again in second place.

Glenn: “It was a good weekend in Most. The training sessions went well and so did the qualifying with a Pole Position. The first race I had a good fight for first place and I rode a consistent race. I narrowly missed first place. Race two was different, the frontrunner was gone and I was struggling to pass the rider in front of me. After that a good rhythm again and we had a good race. We did the right thing riding here. We are fully prepared for the World Supersport that will take place here soon. It was a great weekend with twice a second place. Thanks to the EAB Racing Team for this weekend.”

A disappointing weekend for Glenn van Straalen and the EAB Racing Team in Italy

Glenn van Straalen rode his fourth race of the season last weekend from June 10 to 12. This time Glenn and the EAB Racing Team landed on Italian soil where they raced at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. With a retirement in race one and a nineteenth place in race two the EAB Racing Team is looking back on a difficult weekend.

On Friday morning 11:25 the lights went green for the first free practice of the World Supersport Championship. Glenn had a difficult first practice in which he had not the right feeling with the bike. During the second practice he made the switch and was able to rode his pace as we are used to from the 21-year-old Dutchman. We saw Glenn in eighth place overall after two free practice sessions.

The Superpole on saturday determines the starting position for the races. Glenn was able to improve during Superpole compared to Friday. Despite that it was a difficult qualifying for the EAB Racing Team rider. In the last part of the session, the Yamaha rider also crashed, which he luckily escaped without any injuries.

The first race in Misano was truly short. To a hectic start Glenn was in the midfield and then made his advance. But after a number of corners, the Yamaha machine ran into technical difficulties, forcing Glenn to retire on the first lap of the race and send his Yamaha YZF-R6 into the pit lane.

It was a complicated second race for Glenn. He had a poor start and lost some positions in the opening lap. On the first pass he was in fifteenth place and rode in a large group battling for eleventh place. After a few laps two riders in front of him crashed, which Glenn narrowly avoided. Unfortunately, the EAB Racing Team rider was unable to find the right rhythm and finished the weekend in eighteenth place.

Glenn: “It was disappointing weekend in Misano. Friday morning started bad, but in the afternoon I was able to make big steps. The Superpole was good, I was able to improve myself but unfortunately during the second outing couldn’t improve the time. The first race ended early. After the start, the Yamaha machine had some technical problems, forcing me to pit. Race two was good and I was around the points in the early stages until I had to avoid a crash. After that I could not rode the right pace. It has been a rough weekend here in Misano. We are now looking forward to the weekend in Donington. I am confident to put the results right.”

For the next race we will be back in the weekend from 15 to 17 July. Then the World Supersport Championship will be at Donington Park in England.

Friday afternoon the EAB Racing Team rider Glenn started his first free practice of the weekend. During the first-time practice Glenn was hasn’t had the right feeling on the Yamaha YZF-R6. After some adjustments to the bike things went a lot better for Glenn during the second free practice. We saw the rider from Hoogkarspel back in fifth place overall after the two free practice sessions.

Saturday morning at 11:15 the Superpole started. Glenn did a good qualifying in Estoril and set a time of 1’39.952. He was allowed to start the races from a third starting position. He was able to improve continuously throughout the session and on his last lap he put the Yamaha on the front row of the grid. An excellent performance from the EAB Racing team rider.

The first race on Saturday afternoon. During the start Glenn managed to hold his rhythm and came through in fifth place after the first lap. The following lap, EAB Racing Team rider passerd Jules Cluzel for third place. Then he got into the fight for the lead. Glenn showed excellent speed and passed Dominique Aegerter fighting for place one. Unfortunately due to a crash, his podium chances were lost. But Glenn didn’t hesitate for a moment and picked up his Yamaha YZR-R6 to finish in a neater seventh place.

In race two we saw different weather conditions. It was a race, where splashes of rain made spectacular situations. In the first few opening laps Glenn lost some ground. He closed the gap towards the leading group but got stuck at the tail of the group. The EAB Racing Team rider finished the weekend in Portugal in eighth place.

Glenn: “Overall it was a good weekend in Estoril. Friday morning started off difficult and I couldn’t quite find my way. In the second free practice session, I found more confidence in the bike and with a good tire we were again in good rhythm. I had a perfect Superpole, on my last lap I came in third place. In race one we had a good rhythm until I crashed. Fortunately I was able to pick up the bike and fight my way back to seventh. Race two was a tough race, I had some grip problems throughout the race which resulted in eighth place. We have again secured important points for the championship. Thanks to the EAB Racing Team for this weekend.”

Excellent weekend in Aragon gives confidence for Glenn van Straalen

Glenn van Straalen and the EAB Racing Team closed the first race weekend of 2022 with a good feeling. Van Straalen rode to his career best results in the Supersport World Championship. During the practices the Yamaha rider consistently rode in the top fifteen. The qualifying was perfect and Glenn was able to set a fast lap straight away. He put the Yamaha YZF-R6 in fifth place for the opening race at Motorland Aragon.

Last weekend Motorland Aragon was the place to be for the World Supersport Championship. Glenn had an excellent opening to the season. The free practices were good, so went the Superpole. Glenn qualified in a decent fifth place. His best qualification this championship.

From a second row, Glenn started the first race of the weekend. The start was hectic for the EAB Racing Team rider. He had to rode wide lines in the first corners. Van Straalen came through the first lap in seventh place, riding in a large group. He managed to fight his way through the group and ended up in fourth place. The top three already had a small lead but Glenn started the hunt for the group in front of him. He was able to keep up with the top three for the first half of the race but as the race followed, he had to let go of the leading trio. Glenn rode a decent race to his best result in his World Supersport 600 career in fourth place.

With the start of the second race Glenn faced the same obstacles as the first race. He had not the best start. The first round was characterized by several moments. As result, the top three was already gone, just like Saturday. The first two laps there was a battle for fourth place, until Glenn passed and was able to ride at his own pace. He was in fourth place for the entire race. Until the last lap, when a rider on the third place got technical problems. the EAB Racing team riders was in third place. Until the last corner the podium seemed within reach. But Glenn got passed by a rider just before the finish. Glenn achieved twice a fourth place at Motorland in Aragon.

Glenn: “It was a positive weekend. The speed was good throughout the weekend. During the free practice sessions, the focus was mainly on the setting of the bike and finding a good basis for the race distance. The Superpole on Saturday went perfectly, I managed to improve my time lap time considerably. I qualified fifth. My best qualifying in the Supersport yet! Both races were good. I felt good on the bike all weekend. Unfortunately, the opening laps were not optimal both of the races and I had to make up a few places both times. When I was in fourth place, the top three in both races were already gone. Of course, I would have liked to finish the second race with a podium, but I’m more than happy with two fourth place finishes. Thanks to the EAB Racing team and on to our home race in Assen!”

In two weeks’time it is the home race for Glenn and the EAB Racing Team. In the weekend of April 22 to 24, the WorldSBK paddock will race at the TT-Circuit in Assen.
