Podium for EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen during home race in Assen

The EAB Racing Team closes his home race at the TT Circuit in Assen with positive feelings. This weekend was all about the third round of the FIM World Supersport Championship. It was a good weekend for Glenn van Straalen who took the podium in one race with a third place and an eleventh place in race two.

During the free practice sessions Glenn showed that his race pace was good. On Saturday morning Glenn was in shape and put in a good Superpole session on a sunny TT-Circuit. The track was dry, after being slightly wet shortly before. Glenn clocked a third fastest time at his own pace and was allowed to start the races from the front row.

The first race of the weekend started at 15:15. Glenn started from third place but lost some positions during the start. The rider from Hoogkarspel quickly fought his way forward and was soon on the podium. As the race followed, the rear tire deteriorated, making it an exciting final phase. Glenn kept fighting and finished on a third in front of his home crowd.

In race two Glenn had a good opening but touched several times in the last corner. Because of this he had to go wide and lost ground on the riders in front of him. Not much later, the Yamaha rider came into contact with another rider and had to go to the gravel trap. Unfortunately a lot of bad luck but in the end the EAB Racing Team rider rode a strong race and finishes in tenth place.

Glenn: “It was a positive weekend at the TT Circuit in Assen. We showed good speed over the weekend. The Superpole session was good and I clocked the third place at my own pace. The first race started with a bad start but I picked up the pace and fought my way forward. In the closing stages I struggled with the rear tire but in the end we managed to finish third. It’s great to be on the podium in front of your home crowd. Unfortunately we couldn’t continue this in race two. We were in good shape but we lost time due several moments. I want to thank the EAB Racing Team for this weekend, on to the next race.”

It was a great weekend in front of our Dutch fans at the TT Circuit in Assen. The next race weekend will take place in two weeks’ time on the weekend of 5 to 7 May at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.

Good speed but not the results for EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen in Indonesia

The second race weekend was on the programm in the weekend from 3 to 5 March. This time the venue was the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit in Indonesia. Glenn was up to speed but was unable to convert this into the wanted results. He leaves Indonesia with an eleventh and a DNF.

In tropical conditions with temperatures around thirty degrees, it was a tough weekend for rider and machine. A well-known problem on the circuit in Mandalika is the grip. So the EAB Racing Team is also affected by this, there was a lot of dust on the track and the racing line was quite narrow.

During the first free practice session on Friday morning, Glenn and the team decided to skip the first part of the session due to the grip problem. The last part of practice Glenn went out and was happy with the feeling on the Yamaha YZF-R6. He took this feeling to the second free practice. He had small problems but showed a great pace. After the training sessions, we see the Dutchman back in ninth place on the timesheet.

Conditions on Saturday morning were much better. During Superpole, Glenn manages to improve his lap time from the previous day by one second. With a seventh place in qualifying, he was able to start from the third row during the two races.

Saturday afternoon, 12:00 local time, the lights turned green for the first race of the weekend. It was a strong race but was not rewarded in the end. The 22-year-old rider soon got into a good rhythm and showed himself strongly in the group fighting for fifth place. In the penultimate lap he came into contact with another rider, resulting in a crash. Despite the crash, Glenn was able to pick up the bike and eventually finished in eleventh place.

Sunday’s race was very unfortunate. During the start the Yamaha rider was pushed out wide in the first corner, so Glenn end up on the dirty part of the track. Because of this he lost a lot of time and places. The Dutchman was in the midfield, between the drivers who do not drive the same pace. A mistake in the second round resulted in a crash and a zero score.

Glenn van Staalen: “We show that we have the right pace, but the two races this weekend were very unlucky. During the free practice sessions we immediately got up to speed and we were able to take a seventh starting position during Superpole. The first race was good. I felt strong and managed to ride a good rhythm fighting for fifth place in the race. On the penultimate lap we were hit by another rider, resulting in a crash. I was able to pick up the bike and eventually finished in eleventh place. In race two I got in contact with a rider in the first corner and lost a lot of time. An mistake in the second lap resulted in a crash resulting in a zero score. Not the weekend we had hoped for.”

The back-to-back races in Australia and Indonesia are done. We will be back on European soil in a month and a half. Then our home race in Assen is scheduled. In the weekend from 21 to 23 April, the WorldSBK will be at the TT Circuit in Assen for the third round of the championship.

EAB Racing Team shows good progress during the FIM World Supersport start in Australia

The EAB Racing Team started their FIM World Supersport Championship season in the weekend from 24 to 26 February at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia. A weekend with good progress for Glenn van Straalen and difficult weather conditions.

After the last official test was completed on the Monday and Tuesday before the race weekend, Glenn and the EAB Racing Team were ready for the start of the season. It was a good weekend all around with progression and speed.

Friday we rode two free practice sessions. Under summer temperatures, the 22-year-old rider got up to speed. The feeling with the Yamaha YZR-R6 quickly got to the level where it belongs and the team was able to build on this for Superpole on Saturday

On Saturday morning the lights turned green for the Superpole session. Just before the start of this qualifying it started to rain on the Australian circuit. Glenn quickly went out to set a lap time. This resulted in a good time, which put him on a provisional Pole Position. At that point, the rain stopped and the track dried up quickly, changing a lot in the closing stages. Glenn picked himself up and clocked a time good for the seventh place on the grid for the first race of the season.

The first race of the season was hectic. A few seconds before the start it started to rain. The first part of the race started well and the start was great. Glenn managed to take the lead from seventh place within a few corners. A red flag on lap four of the race prompted a restart. The Yamaha rider was allowed to start from second place. Unfortunately, the wrong tire choice caused difficult conditions, resulting in fourteenth place.

The second race on Sunday was held with a bright sun in the sky. It was a good race, Glenn started from sixth place on the grid. In the opening laps he managed to keep this place and fought with a number of riders for fourth place. As the race followed, the group became a bit larger, but later fell apart again. As a result, the young Dutchman came to ride alone, with a fifth place as a result.

Glenn van Straalen: “Overall we are satisfied with the start of the season. On Friday we started well and soon had the right speed for the rest of the weekend. The first race on Saturday afternoon was hectic. We showed that we had an excellent rhythm and that we had speed. Due to a red flag situation and then a wrong choice of tires, we finished fourteenth. In the second race we showed were we belong with a good fifth place. We are satisfied but need to close the gap. On to Indonesia next weekend!”

We leave Australia behind and go straight to Indonesia where the second race weekend is scheduled for next weekend. From 3 to 5 March we race at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit in Lombok.

EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen will continue their collaboration in 2023

The EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen are joining forces for the FIM Supersport World Championship in 2023. After a positive year, they will join forces again to hunt for top places in this strong championship.

Glenn van Straalen and the EAB Racing team have signed an agreement for 2023 after achieving good successes last season. The 22-year-old rider and the EAB Racing Team led by Ferry Schoenmakers have enjoyed a long and positive partnership. Last season was a year with good and bad moments for both parties.

The season started very strong in Spain at the Motorland Aragon. Glenn rode two fantastic races and finishes fourth twice. The rider from Hoogkarspel shows wonderful things, including during his home race at the TT Circuit in Assen. During the first race he leads the race in front of many Dutch fans. Glenn manages to score a beautiful second place. In France he also rode a sublime race in which the Yamaha rider also manages to finish second after a great race at the Magny Cours circuit.

In addition to a few podiums and several top ten rankings, it is also a season with ups and downs. Glenn scores many DNF’s during several race weekends, but he doesn’t give up and with a lot of strength he shows what he’s got. Glenn is a real fighter and he shows that several times. We see him back in eleventh place in the final standings of the championship, his best season in the world championship so far.

Glenn van Straalen: “In 2023 we will start again with EAB Racing Team in the Supersport world championship. I look forward to competing with them and Yamaha again. Last season we had very good weekends and I am happy to be able to ride in the World championship for another year, the performance of last season helped with that. I am motivated to start the season!”

Ferry Schoenmakers – team owner: “We are delighted to continue the partnership with Glenn van Straalen in 2023. Last season Glenn made great progression and showed great things. On the other hand, he can certainly take steps in the right direction to become even better and get more out of himself. We as the EAB Racing Team are looking forward to the start of the new season. On to a successful year in 2023!”

The first race weekend will take place at the circuit where we finished this season. The season will start in Australia on the weekend of February 24 to 26 at the Phillip Island circuit. The week leading up to the first race weekend will also include testing at the Australian circuit from February 20 to 21

The EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen closes the season with a top ten in Phillip Island

The last race weekend of the season is over. The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia was the final venue for the FIM World Supersport Championship from November 18 to 20. Glenn and the EAB Racing Team rode their last race of the year. It was a good race weekend for Glenn with an 11th place in the first race and a tenth spot in race two.

Friday morning at 10:30 am local time, 00:30 am Dutch time, the first free practice for the World Supersport started. It was sunny and the temperature was pleasant compared to the days before. The opening day started off difficult for Glenn, still suffering from his injury sustained in Indonesia. As the weekend went on, Glenn started to feel better and got more confidence and speed.

On Saturday morning, the EAB Racing Team rider felt much better on the Yamaha YZF-R6. The Superpole took place on a drying track and Glenn and the team were able to make the right choice with the set-up. It was a good qualifying session in which he set a time that was good for ninth on the grid. However, due to a yellow flag situation, Glenn was reduced to fifteenth place and therefore had to start the race from the fifth row.

The first race of the weekend was on a wet track, something we have not seen before this year. From the start Glenn held his position and it was a long race with eighteen laps. In the beginning it was a bit difficult but as the race followed the 22-year-old rider got a better rhythm and managed to set good times. The second half of the race was therefore extremely strong, with Glenn closing a gap of nine seconds. On the last lap he made up two places and crossed the finish line in eleventh place.

The last race of the season started at 14:30 local time, 04:30 Dutch time. It was a strong race, in which Glenn showed his true fighting spirit. He had nice fights, overtakes and fought his way forward. He made up several places and showed himself at the front of the group fighting for eighth place. In the final laps he rode with a group of four riders with Glenn crossing the finish line in tenth place.

Glenn: “We end the season with a positive feeling. After some difficult races we showed ourselves well in Phillip Island. Friday started difficult in Australia but during qualifying I felt a lot better on the bike. The first race was completely wet, a situation we hadn’t had this season. The opening was difficult but soon I had a better rhythm and good times, which resulted in a eleventh place. The last race I felt good from the start. With great fights and overtaking actions, we end the season in tenth place. I want to thank everyone who made this season possible. Thanks to the EAB Racing Team for their trust.”

As a team we close the 2022 season on a positive note after an exciting course this year in the FIM World Supersport Championship. The EAB Racing Team hopes to announce its plans for 2023 soon, more about this later.

Disappointing race weekend for the EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen in Indonesia

Glenn van Straalen and the EAB Racing Team traveled to Indonesia to race at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit over the weekend of November 11 to 13. It was a difficult weekend for Glenn with an crash in the first race and a sixteenth place finish in race two.

The entire weekend was very warm with temperatures around 35 degrees and an bright sun. The circuit in Lombok, located near the Indian Ocean, was given a new layer of asphalt in the month for the eleventh round of the FIM World Superbike Championship. This created a challenge weekend in Lombok.

On Friday there were two free practice sessions. During the first free practice it was important to get used to the new asphalt and to find the right setting and then take steps during the second free practice. The grip kept getting better during the opening day and after the free practice sessions we saw Glenn back in seventh place overall.

The Superpole on Saturday morning was difficult for the young Dutchman. During the first stint he managed to make steps in the right direction but with the new tire the EAB Racing Team rider did not have the speed as therefor. When Glenn tried to push for a fast time, it went wrong in the first corner resulting in a crash. We saw him back in fourteenth place after the Superpole session.

The first race started at 12:00 local time. Glenn had to start from the fifth row but had a bad start and lost several places. It was a hectic opening, with Glenn unfortunately crashing midway through the opening lap. Fortunately, the 22-year-old rider from Hoogkarspel was unhurt.

The aim of the second race was therefore to regain confidence in the bike and to gain racing rhythm. Due to the lack of riding time and speed, it was not the race that was hoped for. It was a tough race in which Glenn rode a lonely race and finished in sixteenth place.

Glenn: “It was a difficult weekend in Indonesia. The combination of high temperatures and new asphalt made it a difficult but also informative weekend. Friday didn’t start bad and I felt good. Saturday’s Superpole started off with a good stint but we couldn’t make progress with the new tire while the others did. Just when I wanted to push for a fast lap I crashed. The first race was unfortunately short, my start was bad and I lost a few places. Not much further I crashed out of the race. In the second race I had not the right confidence, the rhythm and speed were not there as it should be and finished 16th. We are going to recharge and get ready for the last race of the season in Australia, Phillip Island.”

We let the race weekend in Indonesia behind and focus on the last race of the season. We travel to Australia where next weekend November 18 to 20 will be raced at the Phillip Island circuit. We have one more chance to prove ourselves.

EAB Racing Team suffers a difficult weekend in Argentina

In the weekend of October 21 to 23 the FIM Superbike World Championship was hosted in Argentina. We raced on the Circuito San Juan Villicum circuit. It was the tenth race weekend and the first overseas race of the year. It was a difficult weekend for Glenn van Straalen and the EAB Racing team. In race one Glenn crashed out early and scored an eleventh place in race two.

Glenn had a tough opening day on a sunny San Juan track. During the two free practice sessions we worked mainly on the set-up of the Yamaha YZF-R6. The young Dutchman struggled to find the right speed and did not have the right feeling on the bike. We saw Glenn in 11th overall after the first day.

Because Glenn hadn’t found the ideal setting on Friday, this had to be done in the twenty-minute Superpole session. At 11:25 am local time the lights went green for qualifying. The Yamaha rider went straight out and was able to make progress from the first moment compared to Friday. Good progressions were made during this training but it was still not perfect. The 22-year-old rider qualified in eighth place on the grid for the races to be held later in the weekend.

The first race of the weekend started on Saturday evening at 6:30 PM Dutch time. Unfortunately, it was a very short race for Glenn. Shortly after the start of the race, he had a crash in turn seven coming up the straight. He got contact with another rider. It was a nasty crash, in which Glenn fortunately did not suffer any injuries.

In the second race, the 22-year-old rider got a good start and rode a good opening lap while maintaining his position. It soon became difficult for the Yamaha rider, causing him to lose ground on the group in front of him. As a result, the EAB Racing Team rider had a steady race and was in ninth place for a long time. On the penultimate lap, Glenn made a mistake and lost two places. He crossed the finish line in eleventh place.

Glenn: “It was a difficult weekend here in Argentina. On Friday I couldn’t make the progress I wanted and we were too far off the front. Due to some adjustments, the feeling during the Superpole on Saturday morning was better. I was able to improve and qualified in eighth place. In the first race, I crashed during the opening lap. It was an unfortunate situation, which luckily got me unharmed. In the second race I had a good start, but it was difficult to keep up with the leading group. It was a difficult race, in which I unfortunately lost two places in the penultimate lap. In any case, we will take home a few points and focus on the next round in Indonesia. Thanks to the EAB Racing Team for this weekend.”

In three weeks’ time we will be back in action. Then it’s time for the Indonesian round on the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit from November 11-13. Immediately followed by the season finale on the spectacular Phillip Island circuit.

Difficult race weekend in Portimão for EAB Racing Team

The FIM World Superport Championship was hosted at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve circuit in Portugal over the weekend from 7 to 9 October. It was the last race weekend on European soil. Glenn and the EAB Racing Team had a difficult weekend. In the first race he finished twelfth and has a DNF in the second race.

As usual, Friday started with the free practice sessions. Glenn rode lots of laps on a sunny Portimão to improve his feeling on the Yamaha YZF-R6. We also worked hard to find the right setting. The 22-year-old rider finished the free practice sessions in tenth place.

On Saturday morning the Superpole started at 10:25 AM local time, 11:25 AM Dutch time. It was an excellent qualifying session for Glenn who clocked several fast lap times. This resulted in a sixth place on the grid for the upcoming races later in the weekend.

The race weekend was overshadowed on Saturday afternoon by a heavy crash of Victor Steeman in the first Supersport 300 race. The first race for Glenn started later Saturday afternoon. Later.The first race on Saturday afternoon was a difficult one for the Yamaha rider. The start from the second row was excellent and Glenn was able to make up several places on the opening lap. During the race there was a large leading group in which the EAB Racing Team rider managed to mix. Later in the race he had to give some ground to the leading group and ended up in a group fighting for ninth place. In the end Glenn finishes in twelfth place.

In the second race Glenn had a good start and had a sublime opening, showing himself strongly in a large leading group. It was a crazy race but unfortunately Glenn crashed on the seventh lap. Fortunately, he is unhurt. It is a shame to end a race weekend like this.

Glenn: “It was a weekend with mixed feelings. The first day was not bad, we knew what to do with the setup for Saturday. During the Superpole I made a big step with lap time. I was qualified on sixth place on the grid. The first race was difficult and I struggled to keep up with the pace of the front group, I finished in twelfth place. In the second race, we showed ourselves strongly in the opening. Unfortunately, I crashed on the seventh lap. Thanks to the EAB racing Team for this weekend. In addition, my thoughts go out to Victor’s family and friends, I hope the best.”

Glenn and the EAB Racing Team close the European races with mixed feelings. The next race is in two weeks on the weekend of 21 to 23 October. Then we will race at the circuit of San Juan Villicum in Argentina.

A solid race weekend for EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen during World Supersport in Barcelona

The weekend started off difficult for the EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen. During the first free practice Glenn didn’t have the rhythm and speed, which made it difficult into the raceweekend. Later in the afternoon during the second free practice session, the 21-year-old Dutchman had a better feeling on the Yamaha-YZF-R6. He improved his lap times and that gave confidence for the rest of the weekend.

During the twenty-minute Superpole session, Glenn was keen on a good starting position. From the beginning he was in good shape and was in second place for a time. During the qualifying session Glenn was able to improve well compared to the free practice sessions. The lap times went down and Glenn felt good on the EAB Racing Team Yamaha. He managed to qualify in eighth place.

The first race of the weekend was on Saturday afternoon. Due to a crash at the start, the race restarted at 15:40. On the first pass we saw Glenn come through in thirteenth place but then it was difficult to work his way up. He struggled to overtake during the race, so the EAB Racing Team rider crossed the finish line in ninth.

The last race on Sunday didn’t go as planned. Glenn had a good opening lap and was in a large group of riders fighting for first place. In the seventh lap Glenn made mistake and crashed. He lost the front of his machine in turn ten and went down. Fortunately, Glenn didn’t have any injuries, but it is another DNF.

Glenn: “Overall it was a good weekend. Friday started off a bit tricky and we couldn’t find the right setting that felt good. As the day went on it got better and better. I was keen for a good Superpole. The feeling with the machine had improved a lot and that resulted in an eighth place for the races. During the first race on Saturday afternoon It was a bit harder. I struggled to overtake but the pace was good, so I passed the finish at ninth place in race one. Unfortunately on Sunday I crashed out of the race early. This is also part of racing. Thanks to the EAB Racing Team for this weekend.”

The last European round will take place in two weeks. From October 7 till 9, Glenn and the EAB Racing Team will race their second race of the season in Portugal. This time they travel to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in the south of Portugal. This is also the last European race before the crossing to the overseas races.

Perfect saturday, crash on sunday for Glenn van Straalen in Magny Cours

A very strong weekend for the EAB Racing Team and Glenn van Straalen in Magny Cours, France. After a six-week summer break, it was time to race again in the FIM Supersport World Championship from September 9-11. The EAB Racing Team squad even as leaves France with full motivation and confidence. We finished a good weekend in Magny Cours with a second place and a DNF.

The race weekend started off with mixed conditions but ended with lovely post-summer weather. The free practices were semi wet/dry. Not the optimal conditions to find a good setting on the bike. The opening day started a bit difficult. The Yamaha-rider rode a few laps and was forced to sit out a part of the second practice with braking problems. As a result, Glenn missed important riding time and information on Friday.

During Saturday morning’s Superpole Glenn showed once again that he is really strong. He immediately showed good speed and we also saw a strong racing rhythm by the 21-year-old Dutchman. This resulted in sixth place for the two races to be run later in the weekend.

The first race of the weekend started at 15:15 on Saturday afternoon. The conditions were good, it was dry and the sun was high in the sky. Glenn had a good opening and in the first laps he put in a nice overtake on Dominique Aegerter and Lorenzo Baldassarri for a podium position. Halfway through the race, the EAB Racing Team rider along with Baldassarri managed to break away from the rest of the field. On the thirteenth lap the race was interrupted by a red flag. With this we were over second third of the race distance. This meant a great second place for Glenn.

Everything that went well in the first race but turned around in the second race on Sunday. Glenn didn’t get a good start and lost a few places. It was a chaotic opening lap, which also affected the EAB Racing Team rider, who passed the finish line tenth on the first lap. It was difficult to work his way forward. Unfortunately, the race ended early due to a crash in the adelaide hairpin by trying to overtake. It is a shame to end the weekend like this.

Glenn: “Overall it was a good weekend in Magny Cours. The first day we saw mixed weather conditions and we had some problems with the braking, so we missed usable riding time. The Superpole on Saturday morning was good, I was able to set fast times and that was good for a sixth place on the grid. The first race was fantastic of course. To achieve a podium immediately after the summer break, after the last time in Assen is just great. Race two was unfortunately different. I had a bad start and unfortunately didn’t have the feeling I had during race one. While working my way forward, I crashed which resulted in a DNF. It is a shame to end the weekend like this. Furthermore, we showed ourselves good this weekend and that gives us confidence for Barcelona.”

In two weeks, the FIM Supersport World Championship will be back in action. From 23 to 25 September Glenn and the EAB Racing Team will compete at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya circuit.
