Glenn van Straalen has scored an impressive tenth place during his first outing for EAB Racing Team in 2021 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. Heavy rain after the start made life very difficult for al WorldSSP riders, but Glenn did a wonderful job as he was in the top 10 despite the challenging weather conditions. Also after his change to wet tyres, the EAB Racing Team rider impressed as he did earlier in the weekend with P12 in the Superpole on Saturday morning. Glenn was on a points finish for the entire race before he finished the race in a strong P10.
Glenn van Straalen: ‘Yesterday I jumped on the EAB Racing Team YZF-R6 for the first time and FP1 was all about getting used to the bike and made as many laps as possible. Together with the team we chose a good direction for FP2, which allowed me to improve my time considerably. I was very happy with my P13, + 1.2 seconds from P1. In the Superpole it went even better for us with P12 on the grid, only 0.791 seconds from P1. My start was not good, but I was able to gain positions quickly. We entered the pits within the top ten and the team did a great job during the pit stop. I had a hard time with rain tyres on a drying track, but with tenth place we can be very satisfied!’
Ferry Schoenmakers: ‘We are all very proud at Glenn as it’s not easy to jump on a different bike in a different championship mid-season, but he proved it is possible. I’m even more impressed because the weather conditions were very treacherous. Racing in the rain with slicks and racing with wet tires in the dry are very demanding for a rider, especially when everything is new. Hopefully we can improve even more tomorrow. I can’t wait for the Sunday race!’
WorldSSP Race 2 will start tomorrow – Sunday – at 12h30 Spanish local time.
