Last weekend, the EAB Racing Team and its rider Niki Tuuli were at the exciting circuit of Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal. The Supersport World Championship took place here from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 August. It was a tough weekend in warm conditions with not the wanted results. In the first race, Niki finished tenth and crashed early in the second race.

The program was different compared to other races weekends. The races were held in the afternoon and evening on a tropically warm Algarve circuit. On Friday, Niki was looking for the right set-up on his Ducati Panigale V2 machine and that took a lot of time. During the Superpole session on Friday evening, Niki managed to qualify in tenth place for the first race on Saturday afternoon.

During the first race, the Finnish rider got off to a good start and was able to gain a few positions in the first corners. Then it was difficult for Niki to maintain this pace and work his way forward. This was partly due to a crash during the Warm-up earlier in the day. As a result, he experienced problems with braking during the race. As the race progressed, he had to give up a few places and fought duels that earned him tenth place.

Unfortunately, the second race on Sunday was short for the Dutch-Finnish duo. Niki had a bad start and suffered a strange crashe one lap later. Luckily Niki was unharmed. This ended a difficult weekend with a zero score and of course not the desired results.

Kor Veldman: “The weekend in Portugal was not easy. On Friday it was difficult for Niki to find the right direction, but a tenth place on the grid did offer prospects for the first race. Unfortunately, it was a difficult race in which we finished in tenth position. With a crash in the Warm-Up earlier that day did not help either. In the second race Niki had a bad start and crashed early with a DNF as a result. These are simply not the results we are here for. Recharge and on to France early September.”

Niki Tuuli: “I am feeling really disappointed about the weekend. In the warm-up on Sunday morning I felt good and was riding better on the way I want. So I was hopeful for a good race. I had a bad first lap and had a strange crash one lap later. It is a shame to end the weekend in Portugal like this, because I was hoping for much better. At the moment it is not easy but we need to keep going. Things will turn around, next time better. Thanks to the team for their work.”

The next race for the FIM World Supersport Championship will take place in the weekend of Friday 6th to Sunday 8th September. This will take place in France at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours.

Lastig weekend voor het EAB Racing Team tijdens WK Supersport Portimão

Afgelopen weekend was het EAB Racing Team samen met zijn rijder Niki Tuuli te gast op het enerverende circuit van Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal. Van vrijdag 9 tot en met zondag 11 augustus vond hier het WK Supersport plaats. Het bleek een lastig weekend in warme omstandigheden met niet de gewenste resulaten. In de eerste race werd Niki tiende en kwam helaas vroegtijdig ten val in de tweede wedstrijd

Het programma was afgelopen weekend anders dan bij de andere wedstrijden. Er werd namelijk geracet in de middag- en avonduren op een tropisch warm circuit van Algarve. Op vrijdag was Niki zoekende naar de juiste afstelling op zijn Ducati Panigale V2 machine en dat kostte de nodige tijd. Tijdens de Superpole sessie op vrijdagavond wist Niki zich te kwalificeren op een tiende plaats voor de eerste wedstrijd op zaterdag.

Tijdens de eerste race kwam de Finse-coureur goed van zijn plek en kon direct enkele posities winnen in de eerste bochten combinatie. Vervolgens was het lastig voor Niki om dit tempo vast te houden en zijn weg naar voren te werken. Dit had onder andere te maken met een valpartij tijdens de Warm-up eerder op de dag. Hierdoor ondervond hij problemen met het remmen gedurende de wedstrijd. Naarmate de race volgde moest hij enkele plekken toegeven en vocht hij duels uit dat hem uiteindelijk een tiende plaats opleverde.

Helaas was de tweede race van korte duur voor het Nederlandse-Finse duo. Niki kent een slechte start en komt vervolgens in de tweede ronde van de race op bijzondere wijze ten val maar blijft gelukkig ongedeerd. Hiermee werd een lastig weekend afgesloten met een nul score en uiteraard niet de gewenste resultaten.

Kor Veldman: “Het weekend in Portugal was niet eenvoudig. Vrijdag was het niet makkelijk om de goede richting te vinden voor Niki maar een tiende plaats op de grid bood wel vooruitzichten voor de eerste race. Helaas was het een moeizame wedstrijd waarin we als tiende finishten, waarbij een valpartij in de Warm-Up ook niet bevorderlijk was. In de twee wedstrijd had Niki een slechte start en kende vroegtijdig een crash met een DNF als gevolg. Niet de resultaten waarvoor we hier zijn. Opladen en op naar Frankrijk begin september.”

Niki Tuuli: “Ik ben teleurgesteld over het weekend. In de warming-up op zondagochtend voelde ik me goed en reed ik beter op de manier zoals ik wilde. Dus ik had hoop op een goede race. Helaas had ik een slechte eerste ronde, waarbij ik een ronde later crashte. Het is jammer om het weekend in Portugal zo te eindigen, want ik had gehoopt op een beter resultaat. Op dit moment is het niet makkelijk, maar we geven niet op. Het zal beter gaan, op naar de volgende race. Bedankt aan het team voor hun werk.”

De volgende wedstrijd voor het FIM World Supersport kampioenschap vindt plaats in het weekend van vrijdag 6 tot en met zondag 8 september. Dit zal gebeuren in Frankrijk op Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours.
