Last weekend the EAB Racing Team rode their eighth race for the FIM World Supersport Championship at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic. In the weekend of 28 to 30 July, the last race was held here before the summer break. It was a weekend with good progress for Glenn van Straalen but not the results where he had hoped for. Glenn scores an eighth place in the first race and has a crash in the second race.
During the weekend in the Czech Republic we saw changeable weather conditions, with several rain showers and the sun coming by. The Supersport World Championship was not affected by rain and ran their sessions in good weather conditions. During the free practice sessions, Glenn managed to get the right feeling on his Yamaha YZF-R6. He is fourteenth after the free practice sessions.
During the Superpole session on Saturday morning, the young Dutchman managed to improve compared to the free practice sessions. Glenn felt and showed good pace during this qualifying session. He clocked his lap times at his own pace and that gave confidence for the races later in the weekend. With this he was allowed to start from tenth place on the grid.
The first race saw quite a bit of chaos at the start in the first corner, with Glenn also having to steer straight. Due to a crash, the red flag was waved, after which the first race was resumed over twelve laps. Glenn got off to a good start and had a good opening. As the race followed, the Dutchman lost some ground on the front group and crossed the finish line in eight.
The second race was slightly delayed during the start. When everyone was ready for the start, there was a machine with problems, so it was not entirely clear when the starting lights came on. Once the lights were on, Glenn was off too fast resulting in a false start. For this, the Yamaha rider received a double longlappenalty. At that moment it just started to rain on the Autodrom in Most, with Glenn losing the front of his machine entering the long lap. With this he closes the weekend with a zero score.
Glenn: “It was a mixed weekend in Most. We showed that we have the right speed, but this didn’t come out completely in both races. During the free practice sessions, I immediately had a good feeling on the Yamaha YZF-R6. During Superpole my feeling was better and I was able to clock several fast laps for a tenth place on the grid. The first race was good, unfortunately I couldn’t keep up with the front group and had lost some ground. I ended up in another group with eighth place as a result. We can be short about the second race. I had a false start, which resulted in a double long lap penalty. When I entered this longlap I crashed because of the rain. We are going to recharge and get ready for the next race. Thanks to the EAB Racing Team for the weekend.”
We are now entering a six-week summer break. Glenn is currently seventh in the standings. The next race for the FIM World Supersport Championship will take place on the weekend of 8-10 September at the Magny Cours circuit in France.
