End of an era for EAB Racing Team after nearly two decades

At the end of the 2026 FIM Supersport World Championship season, EAB Racing Team will come to an end. The Dutch team will conclude its activities in international racing after this season, bringing a special chapter to a close in which the team has been part of the WorldSBK paddock for nearly two decades and has provided opportunities to many national and international riders.

The decision to stop has not been an easy one. The uncertainty heading into a new season, combined with the developments of the past two years, has led the team to conclude that this is the right moment to bring the journey to an end. Until then, however, the full focus remains on the current season. Together with Simon Jespersen, EAB Racing Team wants to finish the final races in a strong and positive way.

The history of EAB Racing Team began in 2006, when Ferry Schoenmakers founded the team. From 2008 onwards, EAB grew into a familiar presence in international production-based motorcycle racing championships. Over the years, the team competed in series including the European Superstock 600 Championship, the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup and, eventually, the FIM Supersport World Championship.

One of the absolute highlights came in 2012. As part of the EAB Ten Kate Junior Team, Michael van der Mark claimed the European Superstock 600 title aboard a Honda CBR600RR. The Dutch rider won six races that season and secured the championship with another victory during the season finale at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours. It proved to be an important step in Van der Mark’s career before he moved up to the WorldSSP Championship. Several years earlier, however, the team had already won the same title with British rider Gino Rea.

EAB remained active at international level in the years that followed. After a long period with Honda, a new chapter began in 2014 with Ducati in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup. Fabio Massei delivered two podium finishes for the team that season aboard the Ducati 1199 Panigale R, including a second place at Imola.

Later, EAB Racing Team became an established name in the WorldSSP field. The team’s home rounds at TT Circuit Assen in particular produced several memorable moments. Randy Krummenacher finished third in 2021, before Glenn van Straalen came just 0.081 seconds short of victory in front of his home crowd in 2022, finishing second. Van Straalen also stood on the podium at Magny-Cours later that same season. One year later, another podium followed at Assen with a third-place finish. In 2024, Niki Tuuli continued that run by taking the EAB Racing Team Ducati Panigale V2 to third place during the team’s home round at Assen. Later that season, in mixed conditions, the Finn went one step further by taking victory in Race 1 at Magny-Cours.

Over the years, many well-known riders also became part of the EAB family. Alongside Michael van der Mark, Glenn van Straalen, Randy Krummenacher and Niki Tuuli, riders including Gino Rea, Jed Metcher, Florian Marion, Anthony West Tony Covena and Alex Schacht and many more represented the team. For Ferry Schoenmakers, supporting riders and giving them opportunities within international motorcycle racing was always an important part of the philosophy behind EAB Racing Team.

That history is inseparably connected to Ferry. The founder and long-time driving force behind the team passed away on 31 May 2025 at the age of 59 after a long illness. Due to his health, he had already stepped back from the day-to-day running of the team earlier that season, but his influence remained significant. Without his dedication, passion and perseverance, EAB Racing Team would never have been able to build the position it ultimately achieved within international motorcycle racing.

Pjotr Groenenberg, Team Manager: “The decision to stop after this season has definitely not been an easy one. When we look at the uncertainty towards the future and everything that has happened over the past two years, we believe this is the right moment for us. At the same time, I am extremely proud of what we have achieved with a relatively small group of people, especially considering the level of competition in World Supersport today. None of this would have been possible without Ferry. He built this team and gave everything for it. We also want to thank Simon for the season we are sharing together and wish him all the best for the future. We want to close the EAB Racing Team chapter in the best possible way.”

With three race weekends still remaining, the season is not over yet. That is where the full focus remains. Together with Simon, the team will continue working on the Ducati, aiming to get the maximum out of every weekend while also making sure to enjoy the final kilometres of a special motorsport journey.

After the final chequered flag in Jerez, EAB Racing Team will come to an end. Not only as a racing team, but as nearly two decades of races, long journeys, late nights in the pit box, successes, disappointments, opportunities for riders and, above all, many people who shared the same passion for motorcycle racing.
