EAB Racing Team completed a positive race weekend during the Pirelli Portuguese Round at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, scoring points and confirming its competitive pace in the FIM Supersport World Championship. Simon managed to score a 13th and 14th place in both races.
Friday provided a solid foundation for the weekend. The team finished P13 in Free Practice and P14 in Superpole. The gaps throughout the field remained extremely small, with only a few tenths separating multiple positions on the grid. This underlined once again how competitive the championship currently is.
Saturday’s race 1 delivered a strong opening. Simon made a very good start and immediately gained positions in the first laps. He showed competitive pace early in the race and was fighting inside the points-scoring group. As the race progressed, he lost a few positions but maintained a consistent rhythm, finishing in P13 and securing valuable points.
In race 2 on Sunday, the Dannish showed another step forward. A strong start combined with fast and consistent lap times allowed him to stay in the fight for a strong result throughout the race. In the closing stages, contact with another rider unfortunately caused him to lose multiple positions with a 14th place as a result. The weekend in Portugal remains positive. The team showed consistent race pace, strong starts and the ability to compete in the midfield where the margins are minimal.
Pjotr Groenenberg (Team Manager):“Looking at the full weekend, we can be satisfied with the progress we made. The field is incredibly close, so every small detail matters. We showed good race pace and consistency, and Simon made strong starts in both races. Of course, the contact in Race 2 is unfortunate, but these things can happen in racing. The important part is that we are moving forward step by step.”
Simon Jespersen: “It was a solid weekend overall. We made a good step compared to Friday and I felt comfortable on the bike, especially in the second race. The starts were strong and our pace was competitive for the postions in the points. It’s a shame about the contact in Race 2 because we could have finished further up, but we take the positives and keep building, on to Assen.”
With points scored and clear progress the EAB Racing Team leaves Portimão with confidence. The focus now shifts to the next round, which is the team’s home round. In three weeks time the WorldSBK will be in Assen for round three of the championship. This event will take place from Friday 17 till Sunday 19 Apil.

Het EAB Racing Team kende een positief raceweekend tijdens de Pirelli Portuguese Round op het Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, waarbij punten werden gescoord en een stijgende lijn duidelijk zichtbaar was. Simon wist in de races als 13e en 14e te finishen in het FIM Supersport World Championship.
De vrijdag vormde een solide basis voor het weekend. Het team eindigde als P13 in de vrije training en P14 in de Superpole. De verschillen in het veld waren opnieuw extreem klein, met slechts enkele tienden tussen meerdere startposities. Dit onderstreept hoe competitief het kampioenschap momenteel is.
De eerste race op zaterdag begon met een sterke openingsfase. Simon had een goede start en won direct meerdere posities in de eerste ronden. Hij liet in het begin van de race een competitief tempo zien en vocht mee in de groep voor de punten. Naarmate de race vorderde, verloor hij enkele posities, maar hij wist een constant ritme vast te houden en finishte als 13e, waarmee hij opnieuw belangrijke punten scoorde.
In race 2 op zondag liet de Deen opnieuw progressie zien. Een sterke start, gecombineerd met snelle en constante rondetijden, zorgde ervoor dat hij gedurende de race kon meestrijden om een goed resultaat. In de slotfase zorgde contact met een andere rijder er helaas voor dat hij meerdere posities verloor, met een 14e plaats als resultaat. Desondanks blijft het weekend in Portugal positief. Het team toonde een constant tempo en liet zien mee te kunnen doen voor de punten.
Pjotr Groenenberg (Teammanager): “Als we naar het hele weekend kijken, mogen we tevreden zijn met de progressie die we hebben geboekt. Het veld zit ongelooflijk dicht bij elkaar, dus elk detail maakt het verschil. We hebben een goede racepace en consistentie laten zien en Simon had in beide races sterke starts. Natuurlijk is het momentje in race 2 jammer, maar dat hoort bij het racen. Het belangrijkste is dat we stap voor stap vooruitgang boeken.”
Simon Jespersen: “Het was over het algemeen een solide weekend. We hebben een goede stap gezet ten opzichte van vrijdag en ik voelde me comfortabel op de motor, vooral in de tweede race. De starts waren sterk en onze pace was goed genoeg om mee te doen voor de punten. Het is jammer van het contact in race 2, want we hadden verder naar voren kunnen eindigen, maar we nemen de positieve punten mee en blijven bouwen. Op naar Assen.”
Met punten op zak en duidelijke progressie verlaat EAB Racing Team Portimão met vertrouwen. De focus verschuift nu naar de volgende ronde, tevens de thuiswedstrijd van het team. Over drie weken komt het WorldSBK in actie op het TT Circuit Assen voor ronde drie van het kampioenschap, van vrijdag 17 tot en met zondag 19 april.
