EAB Racing Team completed a productive race weekend during the Motul Hungarian Round at the Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary. Together with Simon Jespersen, clear progress was made, resulting in an eighth-place finish in Race 1 and a ninth position in Race 2 on Sunday.
Friday marked a strong start under good conditions, with lap times significantly faster compared to last year. Simon quickly found a good rhythm during Free Practice, finishing seventh on the timesheets. He carried this momentum into Superpole, securing his best qualifying result in the FIM Supersport World Championship so far with a fourth place. Following multiple penalties issued after incidents in Free Practice and Superpole, the starting grid was adjusted. This promoted the EAB Racing Team rider to third on the grid, earning a front row start.
Saturday’s race confirmed the team’s progress. The team once again ran the special livery, following the many positive reactions received earlier in Assen. Starting from the front row, Jespersen remained competitive throughout the race in a tightly packed field and maintained a consistent pace. Although expectations were slightly higher beforehand, the race once again highlighted how small the margins are, resulting in a solid eighth-place finish.
During Race 2, Jespersen remained competitive within the group and maintained consistent lap times. During the race, he had an issue with his suit, which caused discomfort and made it more difficult to maintain his rhythm towards the end. Despite this, he stayed focused and continued the maximum from the race. Due a track limits penalty the team scored in a ninth-place finish — marking two positive results for the Dutch team in Hungary.
Pjotr Groenenberg (Team Manager): “Overall, this was a positive and important weekend for us. We showed clear progress, especially compared to earlier rounds. Starting from the front row gave us a good opportunity, and even though we expected slightly more, P8 and P9 are solid results in such a competitive field. We also had to deal with some challenges in Race 2, but the team stayed focused and managed the situation well. This is a step forward and a good base to keep building on towards the next round.”
Simon Jespersen: “Overall it was a good weekend, but I was aiming for a bit more, especially after our strong qualifying pace. We showed that we have the speed to fight further up, which is positive. In the races we managed to stay consistent and score solid points, even with some challenges along the way. We’ll take the learnings from this weekend and keep working to put everything together in the next rounds.
With valuable points secured and a clear step forward, the team now shifts its focus to the next round of the championship at Autodrom Most from May 15 to 17.
EAB Racing Team scoort beste seizoensresultaat op Balaton Park
EAB Racing Team heeft een productief wedstrijdweekend afgewerkt tijdens de Motul Hungarian Round op het Balaton Park Circuit in Hongarije. Samen met Simon Jespersen werden duidelijke stappen voorwaarts gezet en dit was goed voor een achtste plaats in de eerste wedstrijd en een negende plaats tijdens de tweede race op zondag.
De vrijdag vormde een sterke start onder goede omstandigheden, waarbij er aanzienlijk sneller werd gereden dan vorig jaar. Simon vond direct een goed ritme in de vrije training en sloot deze af als zevende op de tijdenlijsten. Dit gevoel trok hij door richting de Superpole en wist dit te vertalen naar zijn beste kwalificatieresultaat in het FIM Supersport World Championship tot nu toe, met een vierde tijd in de Superpole. Na meerdere straffen naar aanleiding van incidenten in de vrije training en de Superpole, werd de startgrid aangepast. Hierdoor schoof het EAB Racing Team op naar de derde startpositie en mocht hij vanaf de eerste startrij vertrekken.
De race op zaterdag bevestigde de progressie van het team. Ook dit weekend werd er gereden met de speciale livery, na de vele positieve reacties eerder van Assen. Vanaf de eerste startrij bleef Jespersen de volledige race een constante pace te rijden. Ondanks dat de verwachting vooraf iets hoger lag, liet de race opnieuw zien hoe klein de verschillen momenteel zijn en scoorde hij hier een achtste plaats.
Tijdens de tweede race wist Jespersen goed mee te draaien en wist hij constante rondetijden te rijden. Tijdens de wedstrijd kreeg hij echter te maken met een probleem aan zijn pak, wat voor hinder zorgde en het lastiger maakte om zijn ritme vast te houden richting het einde van de race. Desondanks bleef hij gefocust en bleef hij het maximale eruit halen. Een penalty vanwege track limits betekende een negende plaats — twee positieve resultaten voor het Nederlandse Team in Hongarije.
Pjotr Groenenberg (Team Manager): Over het algemeen was dit een positief en belangrijk weekend voor ons. We hebben duidelijke progressie laten zien, zeker ten opzichte van de eerdere races. De start vanaf de eerste startrij gaf ons een goede uitgangspositie, en hoewel we op iets meer hadden gehoopt, zijn P8 en P9 solide resultaten in een competitief veld. In Race 2 kregen we te maken met een aantal uitdagingen, maar als team bleven we gefocust. Dit is een stap voorwaarts en een goede basis om op verder te bouwen richting de volgende ronde.”
Simon Jespersen: “Over het algemeen was het een goed weekend, maar ik mikte op iets meer, zeker gezien onze sterke pace in de kwalificatie. We hebben laten zien dat we de snelheid hebben om verder naar voren te vechten, wat positief is. In de races bleven we constant en hebben we ondanks wat uitdagingen solide punten gescoord. We nemen de leerpunten mee en blijven werken om alles samen te laten komen in de komende rondes.”
Met belangrijke punten op zak en een duidelijke stap voorwaarts richt het team zich op de volgende ronde van het kampioenschap op Autodrom Most van vrijdag 15 tot en met 17 mei.
