The EAB Racing Team and Niki Tuuli scores a great victory on a drying circuit during the first race in Magny Cours. The race weekend for the Dutch raceteam ended up with an eighth place in the second race. This all happened from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 September during the ninth round of the World Supersport Championship in France.

It was a weekend with all kinds of different weather elements. On Friday it was dry and during the free practice it was still a bit of a search for the right feeling on the Ducati bike. Niki experienced some problems with the front of the bike, especially when braking. With a few adjustments the feeling in the Superpole session was considerably better. Niki managed to improve and qualified in tenth place for the first race later in the weekend.

The first race on Saturday afternoon was cancelled due to the extreme rainfall. This made it irresponsible to race and the WorldSBK-organization decided to hold the first race on Sunday morning. At Sunday morning the lights went green for the first race of the weekend. The conditions were difficult on a drying track, with Niki starting on slicks. The Finn was carefully in the first laps, but afterwards built up an excellent pace lap by lap and was able to ride a good rhythm. As a result he took the lead in the race and built up a large lead. After twelve laps Niki crossed the finish line as the winner and scored the first victory for the EAB Racing Team in the Supersport on a Ducati machine. A great result for the team and a nice boost for the reminder of the World Supersport season.

During the second race on Sunday afternoon it was dry in Magny-Cours. Niki had a strong opening and fought for the top positions in the race. As the race progressed, he had to let go some riders in front of him and lost ground to the leading riders. Nevertheless Niki rode a great race, with the EAB Racing Team ending the weekend with an eighth place in France.

Kor Veldman: “The race weekend in France was not easy with the special weather conditions. We won the first race with Niki and we certainly needed that as a team and rider after a difficult period. In the second race we crossed the finish in eighth place. We can be absolutely satisfied with the results in Magny-Cours.”

Niki Tuuli: “For sure I am happy with the victory in race one. Also, the start of race two was good. But when I lost the group and the slipstream in front of me it was difficult to fight back. Overall, we still had a good weekend in Magny-Cours and the feeling with the bike was also good. We need to improve and finetune the complete package to make better results and can fight more often for better results. We are going on the right way and step by step we will get there. In two weeks the EAB Racing Team will be in action on the new Cremona circuit in Italy. A new circuit for everyone, where only testing has been done so far. This race weekend will take place from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September.

EAB Racing Team scoort overwinning in Magny-Cours

Het EAB Racing Team en Niki Tuuli scoren een prachtige overwinning op een opdrogend circuit tijdens de eerste race in Magny Cours. Het raceweekend voor het Nederlandse raceteam eindige met een achtste plaats in de tweede race. Dit alles gebeurde van vrijdag 6 tot en met zondag 8 september tijdens de negende ronde van WK Supersport kampioenschap in Frankrijk.

Het was een weekend met allerlei verschillende weerselementen. Op vrijdag was het droog en waren wij als team tijdens de vrije training nog een beetje zoekende naar het juiste gevoel op de Ducati-motorfiets. Met name onder het remmen ondervond Niki nog enkele problemen aan de voorkant van motor. Met enkele aanpassingen was het gevoel in de Superpole sessie aanzienlijk beter. Niki wist zich te verbeteren en kwalificeerde zich op een tiende plaats voor de eerste wedstrijd later in het weekend.

De eerste wedstrijd op zaterdagmiddag werd gecancelled vanwege de extreme regenval. Hierdoor was het onverantwoord om te racen en besloot de WorldSBK-organisatie om de eerste race op zondagmorgen te verrijden. Om kwart voor tien zondagmorgen gingen de lichten op groen voor de eerste wedstrijd van het weekend. De omstandigheden waren lastig op een opdrogende baan, waarbij Niki op slicks van start ging. De Fin reed voorzichtig in de openingsfase maar bouwde ronde bij ronde een uitstekend tempo op en kon een goed ritme rijden. Zodoende nam hij de leiding in de wedstrijd en bouwde een ruime voorsprong op. Na twaalf ronden kwam Niki als winnaar over de finish en scoorde hiermee de eerste zege voor het EAB Racing Team in Supersport op een Ducati-machine. Een geweldig resultaat voor het team en een mooie opsteker voor het resterende deel van het WK Supersport seizoen.

Tijdens de tweede race op zondagmiddag was het droog in Magny-Cours. Niki kende een sterke openingsfase en vocht voor de topposities in de wedstrijd. Naarmate de race volgde moest hij iets toegeven op zijn concurrentie en verloor terrein op de voorste rijders. Desalniettemin reed hij een nette race, waarbij het EAB Racing Team het weekend afsloot met een achtste plaats in Frankrijk.

Kor Veldman: “Het raceweekend in Frankrijk was niet makkelijk met de bijzondere weersomstandigheden die wij hadden. Uiteindelijk hebben we de eerste race met Niki gewonnen en dat hadden we als team en rijder zeker nodig na een lastige periode. De tweede race zijn we uiteindelijk gefinisht als achtste en hierdoor mogen we absoluut tevreden zijn met de resultaten in Magny-Cours.”

Niki Tuuli: “Ik ben zeker blij met de overwinning in race één. Ook de start van race twee was goed. Maar toen ik de groep en de slipstream voor me kwijtraakte, was het moeilijk om terug te vechten. Over het geheel genomen hebben we toch een goed weekend gehad in Magny-Cours en het gevoel met de motor was ook goed. We moeten het complete pakket verbeteren en finetunen om betere resultaten te behalen en vaker te kunnen vechten voor betere resultaten. We gaan de goede kant op en stap voor stap komen we er wel. Over twee weken tijd komt het EAB Racing Team in actie op het nieuwe circuit van Cremona in Italië. Voor iedereen een nieuw circuit, waarbij tot op heden alleen nog getest is. Dit raceweekend vindt plaats van vrijdag 20 tot en met zondag 22 september.
