The race weekend at Motorland Aragon has come to an end for EAB Racing Team. From Friday 27 to Sunday 29 September, the tenth round of the FIM World Supersport championship was held here. It was a difficult weekend for the Dutch team and their rider Niki Tuuli. The team left Spain with a fourteenth place in the first race and a sixteenth place in the second race.
On Friday morning we saw the only free practice for the Supersport category at Motorland Aragon. With the sun high in the sky and a strong wind, the first session came to an end. We saw the Finnish rider back in seventeenth place. Although Niki felt good on the bike, the speed was not enough for a good starting position in the Superpole. In some parts of the circuit he had trouble with the rear of the Ducati machine, and this resulted in a sixteenth starting position for the first race on Saturday.
The first race on Saturday afternoon was difficult for the rider from Finland. Starting from fifteenth place, he maintained his position in the opening laps and managed to maintain this position throughout the race. It was a lonely race for Niki, with gaps in front and behind him compared to his rivals. He rode a lonely race and finished in fourteenth place.
The second race was scheduled for Sunday. This also turned out to be a complicated race, in which Niki did not have the confidence and feeling to work his way forward. He dueled in the midfield and did not get further than sixteenth place during this race. It was therefore a difficult weekend for the team, in which the right speed was not found. In the last two races of the season, the Dutch team hopes to find a solution to end the season on a positive note.
Kor Veldman (team manager): “It was another difficult weekend. This started on Friday morning when Niki couldn’t find the right feeling with the bike. Qualifying wasn’t much better and the main reason for this is that on fast tracks our bike doesn’t have enough speed. Niki had to push too hard to achieve the desired times. He tried to compensate for this in the corners, but this resulted in too many mistakes. In the first race we were able to score a few points, partly due to a good start. In the second race we had a moment during the opening laps and it was difficult to come back on the Aragon circuit. We will do our best to defend our position in the championship in the last two races of the season and get everything out of it that is possible.”
Niki Tuuli: “To be honest, I am disappointed about the weekend in Aragon. Normally this is a circuit that suits me well and where I was quite strong in the past. We have already had several difficult weekends and that is of course not easy for me as a rider but also not for the team. At the moment I am not happy with how things are going, and we are simply too far from the front riders. Hopefully we can find something for the last part of the season.”
The EAB Racing Team is preparing for the penultimate race of the World Supersport season. In a couple of weeks, the Superbike championship will once again be visiting Portuguese territory. This time, the Circuito Estoril will be the host in the weekend of 11 to 13 October.
Lastig weekend voor EAB Racing Team in Aragon
Het raceweekend op Motorland Aragon is ten einde voor EAB Racing Team. Van vrijdag 27 tot en met zondag 29 september werd hier geracet voor de tiende ronde van het FIM World Supersport kampioenschap. Het was een moeilijk weekend voor het Nederlandse team en hun rijder Niki Tuuli. Het team verlaat Spanje met een veertiende plaats in de eerste race en een zestiende plaats in de tweede race.
Op vrijdagochtend zagen we de enige vrije training voor de Supersport categorie op het Motorland Aragón. Met de zon hoog aan de hemel en een stevige wind kwam de eerste sessie ten einde. Na afloop zagen we de Finse coureur terug op een zeventiende plaats. Hoewel Niki zich goed voelde op de motor was de snelheid niet genoeg voor een goede uitgangspositie in de Superpole. Op sommige delen van het circuit had hij moeite met de achterkant van de Ducati machine en dit resulteerde in een zestiende startpositie voor de eerste race op zaterdag.
De eerste wedstrijd op zaterdagmiddag was moeizaam voor de coureur uit Finland. Startend vanaf een vijftiende plaats behield hij zijn positie in de openingsfase en wist dit gedurende de wedstrijd te behouden. Het was een eenzame wedstrijd voor Niki, waarbij voor en achter hem gaten waren ten opzichte van de concurrentie. Hij reed een eenzame wedstrijd wat hem een veertiende plaats opleverde.
Op zondag stond de tweede wedstrijd op het programma. Ook dit bleek een ingewikkelde race, waarin Niki niet het vertrouwen en gevoel had om zijn weg naar voren te werken. Hij duelleerde in het middenveld en kwam tijdens deze wedstrijd niet verder dan een zestiende plaats. Het was dan ook een lastig weekend voor het team, waarin niet de juiste snelheid werd gevonden. In de laatste twee wedstrijden van het seizoen hoopt het Nederlandse team een oplossing te vinden om het seizoen op een positieve noot af te sluiten.
Kor Veldman (teammanager): “Het was wederom een moeizaam weekend. Dit begon vrijdagmorgen waar Niki niet het goede gevoel kon vinden met de motor. De kwalificatie was niet veel beter en de hoofdoorzaak hiervan is dat op snelle banen onze motor niet genoeg snelheid heeft. Niki moest hierdoor te veel pushen om de gewenste tijden te halen. Hij probeerde dit te compenseren in de bochten maar hierdoor ontstonden er te veel fouten. In de eerste race konden we nog net een paar puntjes pakken mede door een redelijke start. De tweede race kende we een momentje in de openingsfase en was het moeilijk om terug te komen op het circuit van Aragon. We gaan ons best doen om de laatste twee races van het seizoen onze positie in het kampioenschap te verdedigen en alles er uit halen wat mogelijk is.”
Niki Tuuli: “Eerlijk gezegd ben ik teleurgesteld over het weekend in Aragon. Normaal is dit een circuit dat mij goed ligt en waar ik in het verleden behoorlijk sterk was. We hebben intussen al meerdere moeilijke weekenden gekend en dat is uiteraard niet makkelijk voor mij als coureur maar ook niet voor het team. Op dit moment ben ik niet blij met hoe het gaat en we zitten simpelweg te ver van de voorste rijders. Hopelijk kunnen we iets vinden voor het laatste deel van het seizoen.”
Het EAB Racing Team maakt zich op voor de voorlaatste wedstrijd van het WK Supersport seizoen. Over een tweetal weken is het Superbike kampioenschap wederom te gast op Portugees grondgebied. Ditmaal zal het Circuito Estoril de gastheer zijn in het weekend van 11 tot en met 13 oktober.
