The race weekend at the Autodrom in Most in the Czech Republic has come to an end for the EAB Racing Team and Niki Tuuli. The sixth race weekend of the World Supersport Championship took place from Friday, July 19 to Sunday, July 21. The weekend started with a heavy crash that followed throughout the weekend. Niki scores a tenth and eight place in the races.
The weekend in Most started anything but well for the Dutch and Finnish duo. Early in the free practice, Niki crashed coming out of the last corner. He was thrown from his Ducati Panigale V2 due to a technical defect, after which the motorcycle also caught fire. There was a lot of damage, and the mechanics did a good job getting the machine ready for the Superpole on Friday afternoon.
Halfway through the Superpole session the machine was ready and Niki could hit the track. However, this meant that a lot of riding time had already been lost, but the Ducati rider nevertheless managed to work his way up to the fifteenth starting position. Obviously not the result that was hoped for but considering the circumstances it was not bad. This meant that we had to start the first race from the fifth row.
The team also experienced a technical problem with the engine during the Warm-Up on Saturday morning. Once again, the team and rider lost useful meters but managed to solve the problem prior to the first race.
On Saturday afternoon we saw the first race of the weekend. Niki got off to a good start and managed to gain a few positions in the opening round. Despite all the setbacks, he managed to rode a solid race and was continuously in the top ten. Ultimately, he manages to cross the finish line in tenth place. This resulted in a lot of information and data being collected for a better plan during the second race on Sunday.
The second race on Sunday was positive for the team. A good start from Niki, where he immediately managed to move up several places. He ended up in eighth place, which he managed to hold for the entire race. He rides a lonely race and crosses the finish line in eighth. Despite the setbacks earlier in the weekend, the team can be satisfied with a tenth and eighth place in the races.
Niki Tuuli: “It was a difficult weekend after the crash and problems we had on Friday. Starting from fifteen place didn’t make it easier for us and overall had not the right feeling during the weekend. We improved the feeling on the bike but not the lap times at the moment. We must move forward and need to improve more together. Looking forward to Portimão, thanks to the team for their work.”
Kor Veldman: “After a bad start to the weekend with a crash in free practice, we simply didn’t get enough riding time to get the setup completely to our liking. We started the first race from fifteenth place and without anything strange we finished in ninth place. Some minor adjustments were made for race two, which was certainly better and ended in eighth place. It was not a perfect race, but we did take important points again and looking at the standings in the championship, we are doing good business.
In about three weeks, the Supersport World Championship will take place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal. This will happen on the weekend of August 9 to 11. Here the EAB Racing Team continues to further develop the progress with the Ducati machine.
Ingewikkeld weekend voor het EAB Racing Team in Most
Het raceweekend op het Autodrom in Most in Tsjechië is ten einde voor het EAB Racing Team en Niki Tuuli. Van vrijdag 19 juli tot en met zondag 21 juli vond hier het zesde wedstrijdweekend van het WK Supersport kampioenschap plaats. Het weekend startte met een stevige valpartij dat tijdens het weekend achtervolgde. Niki scoort een tiende en achtste plaats in de wedstrijden.
Het weekend in Most begon allesbehalve naar wens voor het Nederlandse en Finse duo. Al vroeg tijdens de vrije training komt Niki ten val bij het uitkomen van de laatste bocht. Hij wordt door een technisch mankement van zijn Ducati Panigale V2 afgeworpen, waarna de motorfiets vlamvatte. De schade was aanzienlijk groot, waarbij de monteurs keurig werk hebben verricht om de machine klaar te krijgen voor de Superpole op vrijdagmiddag.
Halverwege de Superpole sessie was de machine gereed en kon Niki de baan op. Echter was hiermee al de nodige rijtijd verloren maar de Ducati-rijder wist zich desondanks toch op te werken richting een vijftiende startpositie. Uiteraard niet het resultaat waarop voorhand gehoopt werd maar gezien de omstandigheden was het niet slecht. Hiermee moest de eerste wedstrijd worden aangevangen vanaf een vijfde startrij.
Ook tijdens de Warm-Up op zaterdagochtend ondervond het team technische problemen aan de motor. Wederom verloor het team en rijder nuttige meters maar wisten het probleem te verhelpen voorafgaand aan de eerste wedstrijd.
Op zaterdagmiddag zagen we de eerste wedstrijd van het weekend. Niki kwam goed van zijn plek in wist in de openingsronde enkele posities te winnen. Ondanks alle tegenslagen wist hij een solide race te rijden en reed continu in de top tien. Uiteindelijk weet hij de finish als tiende te passeren. Hiermee was er veel informatie en bijhorende data verzameld voor een beter plan tijdens de tweede wedstrijd op zondag.
De tweede wedstrijd op zondag was positief voor het team. Een goede start van Niki, waarbij hij direct meerdere plaatsten naar voren wist te vechten. Uiteindelijk beland hij op een achtste plaats die hij de complete wedstrijd vast weet te houden. Hij rijdt een eenzame wedstrijd en komt als achtste over de finish. Ondanks de tegenslagen eerder in het weekend kan het team tevreden zijn met een tiende en achtste plek in de wedstrijden.
Niki Tuuli: “Het was een moeilijk weekend na de crash en de problemen die we vrijdag hadden. Starten vanaf een vijftiende plaats maakte het voor ons niet makkelijker en had over het algemeen niet het juiste gevoel tijdens het weekend. We hebben het gevoel op de motor verbeterd, maar verbetering qua rondetijden bleven uit. We moeten vooruit en moeten samen meer verbeteren. Ik kijk uit naar Portimão en bedank aan het team voor hun werk.”
Kor Veldman: “Na een slechte start van het weekend met een crash in de vrije training hebben we gewoon te weinig rijtijd kunnen krijgen om de afstelling helemaal naar wens te krijgen. De eerste race zijn we vanaf plek vijftien gestart en zonder rare dingen zijn we gefinisht op de negende plek. Voor race twee hadden nog wat kleine aanpassingen gedaan, wat zeker beter was en geëindigd op plek acht. Het was geen perfecte race maar wel weer belangrijke punten gepakt en naar de stand in het kampioenschap kijkend doen we goede zaken.
Over een drietal weken zal het WK Supersport op het Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal aantreden. Dit gebeurt in het weekend van 9 tot en met 11 augustus. Hier gaat het EAB Racing Team verder om de progressie met de Ducati machine verder te ontwikkelen.
